On your first visit, one of our clinicians will take the time to listen to your history, concerns, goals, and any medical information you bring. We perform a comprehensive assessment to understand your mobility needs and discuss appropriate orthotic or prosthetic options — whether you are new to limb loss, transitioning from another provider, or seeking adjustments. Our aim is to build a personalized care plan that aligns with your life and goals.
In most cases, yes. Most insurance plans and prosthetic fabrication require a physician’s prescription or referral before we begin custom design or component ordering. If you’re unsure, our patient experience team can help contact your doctor and assist with obtaining the necessary paperwork.
Coverage can vary based on your insurance carrier and plan. Tropical Sky O&P works with many major insurance plans, and our patient experience team will help review your benefits, submit authorizations, and guide you through what is covered versus what may be an out-of-pocket expense. We’ll always communicate clearly before moving forward.
The timeline depends on the complexity of your needs and the type of device. Simple devices and adjustments can sometimes be completed quickly, while custom prostheses typically involve measurement, casting/scanning, fabrication, and several fittings. We keep you informed throughout the process and coordinate efficiently to deliver your device in a timely manner.
Follow-up care is a key part of successful mobility. Even experienced patients require periodic adjustments, alignment checks, and maintenance to ensure comfort and performance. We encourage regular visits so we can monitor skin health, fit, and function — and make adjustments before issues become problems.
Yes — care isn’t limited to our five clinic locations. Our clinicians provide services in hospitals and rehabilitation centers to support your recovery, assist with early protective bracing, shrinker education, and prepare you for future outpatient care. This ensures continuity and responsiveness at every phase of your journey.
Family members play a vital role in support and recovery. We encourage loved ones to attend appointments, ask questions, and join discussions about care plans. Our team provides education on device use, safety, skin care, and mobility strategies so families can confidently support their loved one’s progress and independence.
